Accommodation

The Lodge

Assendelft Lodge offers four elegantly decorated double, air-conditioned bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Each room has its own private entrance with an outside patio where you can sit and enjoy a drink while you take in the surroundings of the Karoo or do some star gazing at night. You can snuggle up in front of the fire in the cozy lounge during winter evenings or enjoy a meal in front of the fire place in the dining room.

Bush Camp

For those with more time at hand and want to be a bit closer to nature, you can stay at Assendelft Bush Camp.  The bush camp has five luxury tented chalets with en-suit facilities and solar powered lights. Hot water is generated by two traditional hot water “donkeys”Each tented chalet accommodates one to four guests in single beds or double beds & has an en-suite bathroom with a shower. Linen & towels are provided. Coffee & tea are also provided in the chalets with a small gas stove.

The communal kitchen is well equipped with cooking and braai utensils as well as a gas fridge, freezer and oven.

The Assendelft Bush Camp Pub is fully stocked and manned, if so required, from 10h00 - 02h00. The wide open spaces beckon and you can head out across the veldt to walk around the farm. Bird watchers can add to their list of Karoo birds and might even be able to identify some of those mystifying lbj's at Assendelft. A fossil trail has been opened in conjunction with the Department of Paleontology from the University of the Witwatersrand. Guided tours can be arranged, free of charge, for visitors and guests​


Activities

It is the ideal base from where to explore: 

  • Visit the quaint little town of Prince Albert (45km); or
  • Gamkaskloof, better known as the “The Hel” (95km); 
  • Meiringspoort, with its breathtaking scenery, an hour’s drive away;  
  • the world renowned Kango Caves (98km);
  • the Karoo National Park (114km) which is ideal for a day trip; or
  • It is also an excellent choice from where you can start exploring the Karoo Highlands Route.
  • You can relax and enjoy the Karoo, wander around the farm;
  • You can visit the lonely grave of a British soldier, killed during the Anglo-Boer War and buried beneath flat Karoo stones and a Guild Cross which reads: “For King & Empire 4628 Pte W Calver, 16th Lancers, 10.9.01”;
  • You go on a fossil trail and see for yourself where the therocephalians ("beast-heads") diictodons and Pristerognathu lived 265 million years ago – a guided tour can be arranged;
  • Experience the starry heavens at night and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Karoo - rest, relax, refresh & recharge your batteries;
  • You can do some bird watching from the bird hide next to the dam at the bush camp and might even be able to identify one of those mystifying Lbj’s;
  • Go for a private braai at one of the two picnic spots next to the Vlakkraal river.

Assendelft Lodge:  R300.00 per person per night sharing |  R350.00 per person per night single.

Assendelft Bush Camp:  R250.00 per person per night sharing |  R300.00 per person per night single.

Note: we accept single bookings moving forward for the Bush Camp.

From the north: 116 km after Beaufort West take the turn off to Prince Albert on the left. 300 metres after crossing the railway line turn immediately right.
From the south: 86 km after Laingsburg take the turn off to Prince Albert on the right. 300 metres after crossing the railway line turn immediately right.
